Mintex 1144 brake pads - Any Good?

Post by LotusLee » Mon May 02, 2011 5:29 pm

Need to get a full set of pads soon and wondered if anyone has used 1144's and how they compare to the standard oem ones? I don't want to fit anything that will eat discs Pagids etc. The only thing I've heard about the 1144's is the excessive brake dust that if left can destroy the paint finish on wheels but I guess that is in extreme conditions i.e on a car that is never washed. cheers Lee

Never used them but fairly decent reviews but most on here seem to recommend CL pads.

Horses for courses, but the 1144 is a good road pad for the Elise that might see the odd track day. Compared to RS42/CL5+ they are good value for money if you're not doing more than the odd track day.

Cheers,

:wave

I have a set. Very pleased with them, deffo VFM and the stopping and anti-fade is good enough as an improvement on std pads for sure.

Dust is probably higher but surely that happens with any "performance" pad. Anyway nothing a good wash and polish can't sort.

For the money and longevity, these are a good option. If I could have afforded it at the time when mine were last changed, I'd have stuck with Pagid (or moved to Carbone Lorraine) but circumstances dictated and I have not been disappointed.

I've done a couple of Knockhill days, a Donington and a Spa (albeit wet) on the 1144s, they were grand.

Their initial bite from cold is nothing special, but nor is it bad enough to have to warn your 2nd driver about it either :-)

PS - I will probably try to save up for some Carbone Lorraines next though, got a chance to experience those on Robin's S2 and was mightily impressed.

I've run 1144s for years and recently moved to 1155s - i've not noticed any real difference in performance from cold but they are significantly better when "making progress".........although bear in mind I do maybe one trackday a year so i may not be representative.

worth a look certainly.

I have 1144 on current Europa and used them previously on the Elise - excellent value and a big improvement over standard pads. Tempted by CL pads but not sure I can justify the outlay for road use.

I've been running them on road and find them a big improvement over the standard pads, just using plain EBC discs with them.

There is a fair bit of dust but rimwax your wheels and it's fine really. Anthracite wheels help hide it though :-)
