After a bit of thought and research (searching the web at work) ive made a frame for 4 wheel alignment based on the string method, basically its a square ally frame which fits round the car, its centred on the wheel centres to give two parallel bars, from where you can measure the toe on all 4 wheels at once with a digital caliper, spent a bit of time setting it up and checking today with surprising results, anyone want a shot ?

Great work! Do you have a comparison between the measurements you took and ones from a pro machine?

I did a check with dunlop type gauges last time set the front parallel and checked the rear which was 3mm toe in overall which i thought
was fair at around 1.5 per side took it to trackscotland day in nov and it felt unpredictable tending to oversteer but it was wet and not a very good day to judge any way after spending a lot of time setting up the frame yesterday i found the front 0.5mm toe in and the rear 3.5 toe in but .. this was actually rlh 1.5 toe out and l/h 5mm toe in !
I have also replaced one shim each side on front camber to try and eliminate the tramlining a bit, its a nice day so im off for a run to see how it drives.

Awesome work sir - if you were a tad closer, I'd have Elaine's car over for a check asap, as I'm sure it's all over the place...

It had around half a tank of fuel, but I couldnt find a voluanteer or suitable sack of tatties to use as a driver, It was intended to be an initial check to see if the rear toe was right and to note the settings because I am going to upgrade the toe links soon (another thread coming up) and wanted a benchmark to return to, so next time I will try to check it both loaded and unloaded to see what the difference is .
Anyway, run went well today, if anything car seems less sharp at front end, maybe needs a camber compromise so I have cut some 0.5 mm shims and will try them in see if it helps.

Cheers
Stevie
