Unusual steering feel...

Post by jimbo » Mon Mar 14, 2011 1:10 pm

ok hoping you guys can help with this:

I've noticed that every now and then the steering on my car loads up, in a straight line, almost like it wants to pull to one side. It's while pulling away at low speeds or slowing down for junctions. if I'm pulling away i usually have to steer into it a smidge and then straighten up again, and if I'm slowing down i have to come off the brakes and then re-apply them. its really annoying me cause i don't know what's causing it ...

any thoughts?

brakes would be my bet. Have you checked the inside pad thickness, the insides usually wear quicker than the outside pad.

yeah it's always to the left, i'll check out the caliper as soon as possible. that would also explain the occasional squeak i can hear from the rear left brakes while crawling in traffic...

cheers guys, that was really quick :D

Could it be the tyres tramlining ? - basically following the camber of the road or faults/ ridges in the surface.

As above, my Elise used to do it.
I think it was a combination of camber of the road, worn front tyres and camber on the front.
It used to pull following the camber at low speed at high speed it was fine.
