Which tyres??? need to prevent another spin.
Re: Which tyres??? need to prevent another spin.
That would have made the front less grippy rather than the rear more grippy IYSWIM.
It's not jsut tracking either camber will hae a large effect on grip levels.
Also it's worhty of note that given fronts last x2 the rears fronts tent to wear on the inside edges a lot more, check that wear is even.

I'm happily fitting AD08s all round to my Exige - priced at not much more than a pair of rear AO48s!
Not sure how many SE'ers have these on at the moment but will post in a couple of weeks when I get some time in the car.
Cheers

Re: Which tyres??? need to prevent another spin.
AHHH, I assumed the new fronts were to match the rears and were same brand - as they aren't I would ditch the rears ( even with lots of tread) and put tyres on the back to match the new ones on the front.acacb wrote:rear tyres are dunlops if i remember correctly.....
You have already had a near miss and got away with it , for the sake of a couple of hundred £ its not worth running different tyres front and back IMHO.

Re: Which tyres??? need to prevent another spin.
right the tyre stats,
New fronts are Bridgestone Potenza's RE 040.... that bad choice?
Old rear are Dunlop SP Sport 01A
Had planned to put bridgestone Potenza's on the back....should i reconsider??

Re: Which tyres??? need to prevent another spin.
The only S2 tyres I've had experience of are Yoko AD07s, which are excellent, if expensive. I didn't think those Bridgestones had a reputation for anything dodgy, albeit not as good as the Yokos that replaced them as OE equipment. Certainly, I know that there are a few that still use them with no real issues.
My 2c is it's less the tyre type than the fact that they are mismatched that's causing you issues. Even if the one on the front is lower grip, it could cause a spin if you power in to a corner, detect some understeer, snap the throttle shut (which is the default response) and it swaps ends.
Anyway, long and short of it, stick the same on the back as you've got on the front asap and make sure pressures and geo is right - maybe also that there's not a sloppy toe-link or something at the back. Then (and I'm not being snarky) go see http://www.carlimits.com if you're confidence is still shaken, as Walshy's teachings let you play around with all of this in a safe environment so you're prepared before the car does something odd. That, and it's a brilliant fun way to spend a day learning just what you don't know!

Cool thanks for all in input everyone.
I'll get bridgestones for rear for now and upgrade to yoko's when funds permit.
Cheers

Thanks Shug, yeah i did fancy doing something like that anyway. I know I can drive well - and beat many unhappy men at karting, lol, but some expert advice would def not go amiss and get my confidence back up in the car. Then (and I'm not being snarky) go see http://www.carlimits.com if you're confidence is still shaken, as Walshy's teachings let you play around with all of this in a safe environment so you're prepared before the car does something odd. Wise words from Shug
Bridgestones were originally factory fit but things have moved on so you might have got something better - still not a bad choice though. But you should get the same tyres on the back now - fronts will last for a good while so you will probably get through 2 sets of rears to the new fronts.acacb wrote: New fronts are Bridgestone Potenza's RE 040.... that bad choice?

What Shug said.
And also, those Dunlop SP Sport 01As are garbage. I had them on an old company Toyota Corolla and they were horrendous, must be like blocks of butter on an Elise.

Mair throttle, less brake
