I have now done 600 miles but the engine sounds like a diesel. I know the VVC is reported a bit noisier that the std K series but heck this is noisier than R5 and thats got solid lifters.
I have done two videos, one inside the car and the other next to the engine.
have a listen and give me your thoughts.

I don't like the sound of that, needs looked at ASAP.
Doesn't look like the engine is vibrating much though (which my 111S did when the timing was out and it sounded similar).

Me neither - I'd personally get it taken to a dealer/specialist on the back of a lowloader.
There's something in there that's hitting something it shouldn't.

I can't tonight, too late to leave it running long enough. Maybe tomorrow night if that's any use?

I've got a diesel escort van from work and it doesn't sound as bad as that. The reason most S2 owners get a "sports" exhaust is so you can hear when the engine is running but I doubt even a decatted S2 would muffle that sound.

Peter
I can't do you a recording cos I'm offshore but that is NOT tappety, that is wrong.....
As Mac says, don't run it till it's checked.
By the way, the S2 111s engine looks a lot more Gucci than my S1 one.
What's the difference that gives the extra 12bhp.

Don't want to alarm and it's hard to tell from the recordings but sounds like my mini did when the bottom end bearings went - has the car only done 600 miles from new? Is it under warranty?
