Rev limiter LED fault

The LED for the rev limiter on my stack has started to flicker randomly!

Anyone else had a similar occurence?

MMC had a look and said its nothing to worry about but they will need the car in for diagnostics for a couple of days!

sounds to me like a loose connection or a bit of water ingress perhaps

did it start when you washed the car or something silly like that?

Probably the alarm playing up as it doubles as the security LED thing.

It's also the MIL lamp - so don't hang about too long.

Nope, MIL lamp is the nice orange one with a picture of an engine.

Is it flickering or just flashing regularly on and off (would suggest alarm).

And how close is the rev needle to it when it flickers?

i'm starting to think - alarm too as mine does this and my alarms silent anyway so it's kinda hard to know what's what

Was a very faint random flicker at the start, but seems to be more prominent now and seems to be agitated by bumps, so may well be just a loose connection (I hope).

Have they done away with the MIL lamp on the yota engine????

K series have the wee shift/alarm light in the middle of the rev counter as the MIL and also the engine check light (orange with pic of engine in it) too.

On the K the check engine only comes on if the cat is in danger.

I'd have to read the manual but mine has always lit the orange one. Solid light for MIL, flashing for terminal...

(all IIRC).

Wonder why the changed it?????

I was able to diagnose Ninja's troubles as a misfire as that was the only fault that caused the "check engine" light to go on.

Was kinda handy having the two different systems - perhaps they only used the "check engine" as a throw back from the S1 111s misfire sensor.

I'll need to check my manual but I was always under the impression there was only 1 MIL light on mine and that was the one with the picture. The shift light is the alarm too but nothing else.

MY2001 Elise have the MIL lamp is also the shift & alarm light as detailed in the owners handbook. The service manual makes refference to the MIL and the engine check light (the one with the engine) as different failures illuminate different lights.

the flashing rev limit led will be caused by water getting into the alarm ECU
it will need a new ECU
