Used Maxsports for ages, then the quality started to vary massively. Last set was Toyo R888. Have to say I'm not getting them again. They are much more expensive that Maxies (as they're not retreads, obviously) but don't have the same feeling of security. They feel kinda vague. Grip level is no better than good maxies, either.

I'm looking at a Maxsport alternative (same idea, perhaps better QC) and will let you know if anything comes of it.

G, I'd save a few pennies more for A048s, if you want decent tyres mate. Can't stick hand on heart and reccomend the R888s

i've got 2 sets of wheels with advan neova's for the road and AO48's for the track. I think the AO48's are an excellent tyre. i'de use them in all weathers and all the time if i could afford them. couldnt say the same about maxsports in the wet tho. they scared me sh**less

gareth, there an excellent tyre. so progressive, they really help you drive better and quicker. well, thats what i tell myself every time i see how much they cost.

Funny Neil, LOVE maxies in the wet. Are we talking wet, or pools of standing water? Granted standing water puckers the sphincter, but on everything else they grip like sticky sh*t!

sorry, meant standing water. thats why i like the 48's, there gripp as hell, but the tread lets the water escape, whereas the maxies hold it in the treadblocks.

i'm probably just a big poof, but i lost confidence whenever it rained.

Funny - A048s don't have so good a rep in the wet - must just be soft SELOCers looking at them and thinking that they cant be good with so little tread. I found the change from Maxies to R888s scary stuff in the wet - had got used to driving pretty hard on the Maxies in all conditions and suddenly the R888s have significantly less grip when it's slippy.

Go, as they say, figure!

48R's by choice, but very expensive, so back on 888's.

I was the original Maxsport user, but as Shug says, they messed around with production and compounds and I could not trust them.

Just been put on to a tyre that supposedly is as good as a 48R in the dry, better in the wet, but has 7mm tread.

Not telling you bloody lot though, as I do need some advantage as an OAP.

I'm wimping out and putting standard RE040s onto the VX. Higher spec tyres would be wasted on me

Got price of £128 fully fitted for the OEM spec rubber from Zip Tyres in Peterheid, anyone know anywhere cheaper?!
