Header Tank Cap

Post by Ferg » Thu Sep 16, 2010 8:55 am

I'm needing one of these but so far have only really bought parts from EP for the car as it's nice to be safe in the knowledge of getting the right thing. I have not yet ventured into buying parts from other cars. This part is a prime candidate for getting down to the local motor factor so I was wondering what the magic Rover model is to mention to get the right parts? Do I just ask for a tank cap from any 1.8K rover? ...or is there anything special I need to know about it.

Pretty lame question, but thought best to ask the SE massive for any gems of experience etc.

:thumbsup

Freelander is what I went for as there is a LR dealer 2 minutes away from me.

Just make sure you get a genuine Rover one.

I've just ordered them from EP in the past; they're only a few pounds IIRC. Noramally though, anything I can get from Partco I do.

Yeah I was just wanting to avoid paying the same in postage as the part itself.

I'll pop along to the Landrover dealer and see what they charge. :thumbsup

Pentland Components are my friends for this kind of thing.

MGF 1.8 is the reference for most things...header cap, oil filter, etc.

Picked up a shiny new one from Landrover for £4.90 on my way home last night. It's a little over a quid more expensive than EP but no postage which is relevent considering I only needed one part.

FYI the part number you need is PCD100160. There is another one that comes up on the computer but it's for a later model and not compatible.

:cheers

Might be worth sticking it in here - http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... ?f=5&t=385

Although I notice there is some swarf on the thread that perhaps we should clean up as well

 I like the 'swarf on the thread' term, I was suddenly thinking there was metal filings on the cap thread.

Could be a good thread if restricted to info only.
