Hi
Posting on behalf of my Uncle - hopefully someone has some advice?
He has a Mondeo STTTTTDDDDDCCCCCIIIIII
When changing gear now the whooshing noise (sounds like a dump valve but I believe is slightly different on a TD) has turned to a rather eerie whistle. Sounds like air is going somewhere it shouldn't? Or that the blower has turned into a banshee. No power loss or noticeable difference in driving but sounds very odd.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
Alistair
Turbo Whistle...
Re: Turbo Whistle...
Sounds very similar to my post a few weeks ago - same issue but couldn't find anything wrong and has been going fine ever since, albeit with the whistle. Have you changed the oil for a thinner grade? I think mine is just normal wear that came to light when I moved form 15-40 to 0-40 oil.

Re: Turbo Whistle...
Could be the intercooler or a leak in that system. I had something similar on an audi, turned out to be the intercooler, also accompanied by black smoke when accerlerating away from junctions and a slight loss of power.

Re: Turbo Whistle...
Does it have a re-cirulating dumpvalve in the system? This could be stuck/broken (common issue on anything that uses them) forcing the pressure out at a weak hose joint or similar.
Just an idea.

Re: Turbo Whistle...
i had this issue with my A4 2.0 tdi, I let it run like that for about 3 months, then it started to go on to limp mode, and when it wasnt on limp mode it was running like a bag of crap not boosting etc, it turned out to be the big pipe coming from the turbo, cost 109 quid from audi, easy enough to change and now its running great again, i just wish i had got it changes sooner.
might be worth having a look at all of the hoses associated with the turbo.

Thanks all
Sounds like it may well be air escaping where it shouldn't so will advise to start there - heres hoping it is as simple as that.
