New Elise S tuning potential

None. None whatsoever. In fact if you were so much as to add a new air filter or exhaust it will break. It is also made by Toyota so there will be a recall every three weeks. *

I cant help thinking lotus are missing a trick here, in terms of customer, revenue and eu regulations.

All the reports ive read on the new elise have qualified the report by saying its a great road car, ie the engines quick enough to enjoy the limits the roads will set on the car, its almost like saying the car will do seventy on a country back road but the handlings so good you can stay doing seventy round the corners aswell. Which is great fun in the corners, but what about the bits of tarmac joining the corners, they just get a bit boring as you sit at seventy waiting on the next corner.

I appreciate the above is not literally true but you get my drift.

what the reports havent really touched on is that lotus driving is addictive and that most cars will find their way onto a track at some point and i get the feeling the new car will be left wanting (by a fair margin) or will have had their necks wrung so much to get every ounce of speed that in later life they might not be the bullet proof specimens we love.

Why didnt lotus do a new engine but detuned by ecu or easy changeable parts to cut the fuel economy right down and do a warranty approved bolt on pack ( or s/s or turbo or something) to whack the performance back up after the car was sold. Keeps them right for eu emission cut levies, keeps cost down on initial sale, recoup more profit on aftermarket bolt on kit and poss additional fee to upgrade warranty.

i appreciate that the journo's would need to be given the aftermarket pack to give a good write up but surely most people would understand why lotus had gone down that route, or have the deliberately lowered the elise to slip a new model in somewhere?

I've also supplied a larger-bore 4-1 for a supercharged install being developed in the UK, the "mule" is road-testing at the moment with approx 200bhp.

Don't think anyone really knows anything about them in terms of tuning yet.
