How did you get on with the fuel filter? I was meant to put one of those in last summer in a B service but chickened out owing to risk of damaging hose that allegedly requires whole fuel pump to be replaced if you do
Can't see how you would have to replace the fuel pump if you damaged the hose. There are hose connections on top of the fuel pump, which are accessable through the access panel behind the passengers seat. Maybe you'd have to replace the carbon canister if you damaged the hoses (i havn't really had a good look at it) but I'm sure I read somewhere that some people take them out anyway so surely that wouldn't be a huge problem if you did damage the hose.

I've never had to change the fuel pump lines, but I would guess it's a tank out job to do ... whilst you might be able to see the hose through the access panel, I wonder whether you can successfully release, remove, rethread new hose and retighten the pipe clip with only the access provided by the access panel?

Cheers,
Robin

This is what I've been running scared of. My batting average on the car is improving, in terms of jobs I've been able tackle solo or with remote guidance (and the odd bit of roadside assistance from the usual suspects!), but I don't want to tempt fate!

As I understand it, lots of soaking in release oil for a day or two is the way to go, so just need to set aside the time to set the car up on the driveway to do this. If I then attempt removal of hoses at the filter and they aren't for shifting, I'll put it all back together and ask a professional to deal with it ;-)

Well it's f*cked. Lower pipe nut won't shift and even a pipe spanner and my weakling strength were starting to round it off for goodness' sake :-( Has most of a can of releasing oil all over it too.

Wheelarch liner thrown back in place in disgust and time to regroup and rethink!

Poo. I don't think I'll be able to come over tonight - boy was OK in the end - feeding him + pals tonight and they'll be here fairly late - so will have to reschedule for next week - soz.

I say get the blow torch on it (JOKE).

Cheers,
Robin

What, the whole car? Don't tempt me.

Lucky I remembered to re-tighten the wheel nuts, which had deliberately not been nipped up before relocating the car into the garage out of the rain in prep for our session! That could have been fun en route to the Windscreens place and Ali's this morning...

Anyway, sorry all for thread drift. Will take my ramblings to a separate thread!
