Cambelts...

Post by Rich H » Sat Jun 19, 2010 6:59 pm

...are a damn sight easier to change if you get the car high up in the air and find the hole under the OS tripode so you can get to the starter ring.
No mincing about, only one stuck bolt in a rawlnut on the wheel arch liner. Nothing wrong with the old belt but I had to close my eyes when I starte dit for the first time...

New cambelt, aux belt and tensionner, no play in the waterpump or alt bearings
Single handed & started at 1300 finished at 1800 just the (Quick release!) trays to go back on :thumbsup

Off for a curry!

Went very smoothly 8) Access is OK once the arch liner is out the way.

Used the DVA belt change plan, undo one engine mount bolt then loosen the other so the engine hangs about 20mm lower, slip the belt between the mount and put the removed bolt back in and do it up to take the load, then undo the other bolt and the belt is off without lowering the engine. Fitting the new belt is simply the reverse!

Old belt was just fine as was the tensioner.

Not bad for your first attempt! Usually takes me an hour. Did one in 5 minutes last week. Engine was sitting on the floor out of the car though. :lol

It's my second one  An hour is good going though!

Porker takes about 10 mins, but that includes the alt belt
