Toyota Engine advice required NLC

Post by Chris G » Wed Jun 16, 2010 9:39 pm

Ladies/Gents,

Looking for some advice on a Toyota Engine....... my dear mother (bless her soul) has just purchased a 2006 Toyota Corrola 1.6 with the 3ZZ petrol engine installed.

Problem that is being encountered is that on start up the idle sits at approx 1500rpm for approx 3 mins until the engine is heated. Doesn't matter if I drive straight off or let it warm up on the drive. This in itself is not a major issue as it soon settles back down to what I consider as being a normal idel speed. The bottom line is it is pi$$ing me off and I do not think it should be idling at this speed on start-up!

I know there are various sensors around the 2ZZ engine thats fitted to my Exige - can anyone suggest what checks I should be making on mother gooses car? Checks I was thinking about included:

idle air control valve
MAF sensor
crankshaft sensor
throttle position sensor
I am pretty sure it has a bosch fuel injection system - which will be electronically controlled and not adjustable (by me). This is not something I can check but is it worth getting the diagnostic plugged in?

Any suggestions appreciated or if anyone has had similar problems on their Toyota engined lotus cars?

Cheers

Chris

Get an OBDII live data reader on it and find out what the engine is up to ... much easier than swapping sensors about.
