Cam belt...

Post by Rich H » Wed Jun 16, 2010 9:33 am

Just been checking and as I want to sell my car it's going to need a cambelt in the next couple of months (4 years) So I'm going to do it.

Do I need anything else other than: cambelt, alt belt, tensionner? Is a Crank bolt normally required?

I'll grind a 22mm socket down for the crank and I haev a cam lock tool.

TIA

Best to buy a new tensioner as I had one fail just 1000 miles after fitting the new belt but make sure you get the correct type they are block dependant. You dont need to replace the Crank Bolt or at least I never have, bear in mind Ive only changed around 6 belts though.

That is 5 more than me!
Nice one - I've ordered the bits (Auto tensioner) and I'll get it done once they turn up form EP.

Have you changed the head on yours Rich as if it's a '97 it's bound to be a manual tensioner if original.

:thumbsup Hasn't grenaded itself yet in 4 years
Not bad for a Rover 100 1.4 (high port) head for £20 :D
(*BANG* )

Just been looking at the old porting thread to work out how old the belt was (It's in the book but I'm at work) and it was 4 years ago in Aug
The Shug cam timing method* was spot on :cheers

(*A right old heath robinson lash up of bits of brass, wood and vernier calipers  )
