where can i purchase another "wrench" thing ?

Post by scott_e » Fri Jun 11, 2010 3:58 pm

Managed to strip the thread on a "wrench" (if thats what its called ?) while putting a tyre back on my wifes nissan ... (got a teary phone call a hour ago that she was stuck in the middle of sainsbury car park :( ) Anyway all sorted now apart from the wrench thing.

Is its a wrench that is used to tighen wheel nuts ?

Where can i pick up another ?

Are nuts all the same size ?

thanks for any advice.

I take it you mean wheel brace?

No all nuts are not same size hence you get spider brace or buy one with the attachments?

I have one like this in the house and although its pretty handy I find the the spider type arrangement is more suited as you can apply equal pressure to both sides so the brace is on flush. With mine if the nut is tight the your applying pressure at only one size and hence it tends to want to slide to one size and chew if that makes sense.

Personally I use a 24" breaking bar and one of those plastic sleeved deep sockets for removal and a torque wrench for sticking them back on.

But I like having lots of tools :D

I got a cheap torque wrench from Argos for £25... it's done about 4 (full set) wheel changes & also some hub nuts for brake discs etc... still working OK.
I have no signature.
