Newbie askin for some advice

Post by flip flop » Mon May 31, 2010 11:01 pm

A bit of a strange one,

Since getting the car 3 weeks ago (2006 Exige) car seems fine, upon checking car prior to leaving for dukes pass run noticed that coolant tank cap was missing. Not wanting to let guys down at meet point I crawled to meet and explained my predicament to neil who luckily found tank cap(in area where seal is for engine bay lid) and we put it on. It was as if cap had been mistakenly left off when coolant topped up.

What ive noticed is that coolant level seems to be up and down (I cant honestly say but cap may have been off since inspection 3 weeks ago) but I have also noticed that there is some water coming out of the exhaust after start up. It is only a small bit and seems to be odourless but may have some carbon in it (pretty sure its off exhaust and not oil).

I'm only using car at weekends.

To you guys that know what your doing, is there anything ringing alarm bells here? and is there any checks/tests i should be doing? (bearing in mind the car had a full warranty and pre purchase inspection and came back with nothing) is there potentially something that check would miss.

thanks in advance (and apologies if I sound like a blouse for worrying)

I'd imagine the stuff coming out of the exhaust is just condensation. The tank level will go up and down between hot and cold. If you've got a leak it'll only go one way and that's down. Nothing to worry about I'd say

Your coolant will rise as your engine warms up. Its important to check/top up the coolant level when the engines cold.

You will always get a little white smoke as long as its not excessive don't worry about it.

hey guys,

thanks for that, feel a bit better now, I'll keep an eye on the coolant and check the next couple of times when cold.

cheers

Err, thought about your enticing proposition.

Am afraid I will have to decline your kind offer as upon checking my warranty it clearly states in page 6 para 3 section c "Further to the conditions listed for adherance to ensure your warranty is valid, nothing shall void your warranty faster or more certainly that breaking the golden commandment - thou shalt not let mckean drive your car"

Sorry mate, otherwise you were a shoe in for a test drive!

take it easy mate :cheers
