Quick release undertrays...

Post by Rich H » Sat Mar 06, 2010 8:02 pm

Hey all, I fitted Dzus half turn D rings today to the undertray as I hate spending ages undoing all the little bolts!

Not a kit for the Elise (For an aprillia I think?) but had panel captive nut things and DZ1 rings. Only the very front sill bolts can't easily be swapped out as the chassis is in the way. The rest was fairly straight forward. The side ones you have to undo a few bolts form the shear panel to get them in and the rearmost outer 2 needed slight fettling to move the clips inboard by 3mm or so, 30 seconds with a round file. I fitted them with 20mm washers on the outside for most of them and 12mm washers between the tray to tray joint to space them out a bit.

Just 2 5mm bolts and the 4 8mm bolts then 14 half turns and all the trays are off!

Been for a blatt and they are still attached! Even fixed the handbrake cable rattle.... :thumbsup

Total cost - £25 for the kit and £2 for new washers

Will let you know how they weather....

Rich

Been thinking of doing the same thing, removing all those little bolts is a constant PITA especially if your a tinkerer like me. Where did you get them from?

Kit has 14 fasteners, the undertrays have 16 bolts but the front 2 clips won't fit. They could be made to by moving them back about 5mm
I figured A: I only had 14 anyway and B: at least some of the tray will still be attached if they all fall out...

I've been thinking about doing similar and had looked at the Eliseparts kit but my inner pikey stopped me from parting with the fifty odd quid.

I looked at the E-P kit but I didn't like the idea of R clips holding the trays on!

They are not very well retained but not a problem when compared with the fiddly little bolts.
