Tyre wear on a Walshy day?

Post by Stewart » Tue May 11, 2010 9:23 pm

I am due to do a Walshy day a week on Thursday. I am presently running A048s which are very close to the end of their life.

I priced tyres from Castle Sports Cars this morning who I believe are the nearest Lotus dealer to North Weald. I was surprised to be quoted £208.50 each for the rears (inc VAT & fitting). I must add that they were very friendly and helpful on the phone.

I am wondering how much wear I should expect on a new set of tyres on a 4 person Walshy day. I should add that I am also doing a North Weald LoT activity day on the Friday.

I haven't done a price comparison with Ronnie at Wheels Around yet but I am trying to avoid putting a pair of rears on now and then again before I go on FFX.

Any thoughts on how many mm of tread wear I am likely to use at North Weald?

The wear should be negligible (as long as you don't end up spinning too much.)

The forces are nowhere as prolonged as on a trackday.

Piece of string question. If you keep looping it and keep the boot in, it'll be horrendous. Surface is rough, but you're not lapping again and again without cool down. Should be fine.

Contact Car Limits - they can most likely sort you out with tyres and a fitter to come to the airfield.

Wouldn't it make more sense to do the day on the nearly dead tyres and put the new ones on afterwards? :scratch

100% dont put new tyres on before it - you will kill them. If they are near the end of their life they are ideal - then get Carlimits to arrnage for their tyre fitter to come and do the job after the day (which was what i meant, but didnt spell out  )

Thanks for the responses guys. I should of mentioned that my plan was to replace them after the two days but was put off by the price so was considering getting ronnie to replace them before I set off.

I had emailed emma at car limits and she advised castle sports cars was closest for 048s.

If the consensus is new tyres after the event I'll probably just bite the bullet and go with castle.

As has been said definitely do not fit the new ones before a Walshy day. That would be madness
