squeeky clutch pedal
squeeky clutch pedal
Seem to be continually lubing my clutch pedal with WD40 and it lasts for about a week then reverts to making a hellish squeeking noise.
Anyone recommend a better lubricant/ resolution (of the automotive type)?

Re: squeeky clutch pedal
Eliseparts do a kit for it PITA to fit but it does solve the problem
http://www.eliseparts.com/products/show ... uneon-kit/
also remember to tigten it up and add a little thread locker or this happens

In the meantime, don't use WD40, use a silicone lubricant such as DryGlide.

Try gt85, or similar graphite based spray?tut wrote:In the meantime, don't use WD40, use a silicone lubricant such as DryGlide.

gt85 will help a little but you basically need the new clutch trunnion bush kit or whatever it's called.
I think I just got a Lotus one, they have updated the parts or whatever but it is indeed a stunner to fit, so I got Ali at SLS to do the gymnastics, for the usual fees.
Job's a carrot, REALLY glad I didn't have to fool around upside down in the footwell for 2 hours. Had enough of that doing throttle linkage with the petite McApe's help...

Ross, no idea how handy you are with a spanner but getting the peddle box out is a real pig which is second only to getting it back in. Once it's out changing the bushes is reasonably straight forward but you have to keep them square to the peddle or you'll end up cutting them.
To get the peddle box out you need to drop out the steering intermediate shaft, disconnect the brake and clutch pipe work (easier if you remove the master cylinder from the pedal box IIRC). Remove the 6 or 8 bolts on the pedal assembly that hold it to the chassis (you wouldn't believe how knuckle scrapingly awkward they are). It also involves moving part of the heater assembly out of the way. Disconnect the throttle cable and linkage and then tilt the pedal box every which way from sunday to get it out. You will begin to wonder weather they built the car around the pedal assembly but it does come out eventually.
Probably the worst job you can get on an Elise ............... by a long way.
Edit: I did this same repair and photo's of it out and disassembled are in the "winter strip down thread" somewhere.

Re: squeeky clutch pedal
You don't actually need to remove the pedal box to do the clutch trunion bushes though.
Saying that, it's still a bitch of a job and you couldn't pay me enough money to do it .

you will need a couple of repair washers and a nut and bolt.
