Emerald and linux

Post by r10crw » Wed Apr 07, 2010 12:40 pm

My works laptop uses XP but has no comport and I hate those usb convertors (Ive wasted hours trying to get them working properly  ) So Im looking at using my home laptop with a fixed com1 which runs Karmic, has anyone experience of running the Emerald software through WINE or similar?

Hi Craig,

I'd ditch Wine and find yourself a copy of VMware workstation. This is exactly what I use on my linux laptop for car tuning purposes. VMware will let you run XP inside linux and pass through any USB or COM ports as required.

You can get a 30 day trial at the link below.

Give me a shout if you've got any problems.... I do VMware design for my day job :thumbsup

Cheers,

Steve

Bloody northeners, making me install Wine and try to get the emerald software working with it

Well, it installs and appears to run fine on my Fedora 11 box, using Wine 1.1.32-1... Cant test it further as i dont have a serial port... Or an emerald :D
