Pikey induction kit

Post by Corranga » Wed Feb 17, 2010 5:13 pm

What would I need other than one of these:

and a bit pipe?

What are the advantages of something like a hurricane / k&n 57i over this theory...?

The fact that the filter (the bit you're actually paying for) will be made of better than an old sock...

If you want to go the pikey induction route, get a 57i and put a plantpot over it with a hose to the intake - not taking the piss, it's been done several times.

Apexi Universal filter's give the best filtration and make a very nice noise. They were knocking about on ebay for ~£50 and £10 for the adapter.

Then just add your pikey shielding or boxing with the feed pipe.

I stuck an ITG panel filter in mine and tweaked the path to the airbox.

A far better route in all honesty, but ignored by most (including me when my induction was standard single TB, I have to add)

I find that all Induction Kits do is attract sand and crap ????

Good quality panel filter in the Original set-up.

IMO, of course.

When I see you in Dundee I will tell you all about the NAF! On the phone right now so do not have pics. Essentially a k57i and exotic housing and duct work. +11.4bhp

Is it the caffine that gives it the extra power or am I thinking of a different kit?

Ok, so i'm a little futher down this route. I was all for the itg panel, but picked up a K&N cone for a decent price, which means i'm thinking about the rest of the, erm NAF (potentially not with an N though ;))

I assume the theory is to get some kind of housing that the filter will be surrounded by.
I supposed this should be a bit heat resistant to stop engine heat getting to the filter, and also I want a bit pipe pointing the air into this surround. I also assume it shouldn't be a sealed thing so any grit etc can still get out?

car builder solutions sell ducting and flanges at reasonable prices. Some careful butchery with a handsaw and you can convert the air intake on your standard air box to use a larger diameter hose. Standard paper panel or ITG/K&N panels will all work equally well, though the paper panel needs replacing whilst the other two need cleaning.

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. If you want to keep grit out you can run the intake in a loop like the standard one does; or you can just empty the grit out the bottom of the standard air box.

If you decide to keep the cone filter, the problem is largely the same - volume around the filter and intake length from TB to air box are both quite important factors. TBH, I would punt the cone filter and get a panel filter for the standard airbox ;-)
