Clutch Dissapeared!!

Post by Ferg » Mon Jan 25, 2010 1:39 pm

Just got into the car after not using it for 2 weeks, started fine but went to pull away and the clutch pedal is mega light!

There was no problem with clutch before, suddenly nothing. The pedals actuating the clutch master cylinder, but theres no movement at the clutch actuator end.

Now normally I'd say that this is due to lack of fluid, and well it probably is, but theres no evidence at either end of leakage. Very strange indeed. I'm off to investigate in the manual and SELOC... anyone experienced something similar?

Sounds like you have some Air in the Clutch Line, Worth a bleed anyway.

What condition is your clutch/brake fluid in ? maybe best to bleed the whole system.

Alan

P.S Use a power bleeder, much easier.

Thanks, after quick look, yes, thats the conclusion I'm coming to. I'll need to get an auto bleeder..

Just found it a bit of a surprise as it was fine before. Dissapointing when you get back in looking forward to a drive and you're denied.

I know what you mean,

Thats why I was asking what condition your brake fluid was in, after all the frost etc ...

Learning curve on the car continues. :D

The fluid level has dropped close to the little connecting pipe between the brake master and clutch master cylinders so it's been sucking air intermittantly. Full bleed required so off to get a bleeder, been meaning to get one anyway.

Moral of the story, check your fluids regularly.

Bled the clutch this afternoon and we're back and working. Removing, refitting and general jiggling the reservoir cap has brought the low level fluid warning light back into a working state which explains why I didn't notice the impending problem.

i learnt the hard way about checking brake fluiod when i lost all use of them coming down applecross.....

luckily i managed to just throw it into the corner and pump the pedal afterwards, roasting day + long fast run + old brake fluid = near disaster!!
