Oh No. Eratic Temperature

Post by BiggestNizzy » Fri Jan 08, 2010 9:05 am

Not the weather I'm afraid but on my way to work this morning my temp gauge slowely climbed upto 103 while I was driving along (20-30mph) it then even more worryingly plumeted instantly to 77 degree's where it quickly climbed to 85 then slowely upto 90 (normal) there was no change at the lights and it was to dark to tell if I have water or not.

/bricking it :(

Aye - check that the antifreeze is strong. Elaine's Derv work transport had an episode that looked like HGF the other day, temp shot off the scale, all the lights came on. RAC man later said (after starting and cycling it, then checking the coolant) that the antifreeze was only protecting down to about -7 and there had probably been ice in there somewhere...

Is was a thought (an unpleasent one at that) so is air I have had a misterious water loss, (happens once a year.)I also have a couple of pressure caps sitting at arnold clark for that.

I will go and get a thingumy for checking the coolant/antifreeze mix

A gob of ice would cause havoc then disappear pretty quick, keep an eye on the coolant, make sure it's strong enough with antifreeze adn see how you go.

Slushy pipes causing low rad flow pushing up the temp, ice melts and wide open stat allows ice cold water right through (stat is on the way out of the block!) shuts stat, ice has now melted so normal cooling resumes. Should be OK I would think.

Nizzy, as in your previous post, you can get Steve's kit from me, or Steve, I can drop it round yours anytime (I traverse Prospecthill Rd on the way home from work every day, although not sure if you're home at that time.)

Just PM when to arrange summit.
