PIAA wiper blade S1

Post by sja » Mon Dec 07, 2009 4:32 am

Has anyone fitted a PIAA super silicone wiper blade to an S1, if so is it a straight replacement for the original wiper?

I did a search and a few people have talked about getting one but has anyone actually fit one. Seeing that santa is due to do the rounds I thought I would add this to my christmas list, it's got to be better than socks :D

Not done it to the S1 but I have fitted a set of these to my Evo recently.

From the forums that I have read on the MLR, the preparation to them is key. From what I remember:
1) Washing windscreen with shampoo as per normal process
2) Rinsing car
3) Applying glass cleaner to the windscreen
4) Buffing the glass cleaner (as per my glass cleaner instructions)
5) Applying PIAA cloth to the windscreen
6) Allowing chemical to dry
7) Running wiper blades dry for 10 minutes

Must admit the longest I have ever spent fitting wiper blades but very happy with them :) The instructions on the pack are pretty good and sure they are the same as above.

So make sure you don't fit them just before it time to carve up the turkey :D

I'm not sure about a PIAA wiper blade, but as standard the S1 blade is a PITA!

I was under the impression that there was only 1 or 2 blades that fit the S1 in standard form (with the crazy screw / rusty R clip) and the blade is only available form Lotus dealers / specialists
unless
you have an S2 wiper arm fitted in which case pretty much anything can be fitted.

I just fitted an S2 wiper arm to Erica's VX220 (had the same original arm as the s1, with the 25 quid a time blades...), and a 7 quid 24inch bosch blade from halfrauds, 5 minute job :)

I found a champion wiper blade fitted the standard S1 arm with pin and clip ( as it didnt have the rivet heads/tube holding it together as some wiper blades to which stops the blade pivoting if you fit it to an S1 arm

S2 arm takes a standard blade, but may foul your front clam unless its been positioned to allow for it just catches on the silver car but was fine on the blue one

Ive used PIAA wipers on the VX for about 4 years and they are excellent - well as good as a vxlise wiper can be

Unlike douglas i didnt follow the instructions and just fired it on :thumbsup

Think the later VX used the later Lotus arm though meaning you might have the S2 style regular clip on yours (could be a whole world of wrong though :thumbsup )
