Sorry to hear that  As everyone says as long as you are okay though :thumbsup

Sounds like a write off - you are easilly talking 10k's worth of damage there if you do need two new clams.

All the best whichever way it pans out.

Kevin

Magic figure is around 60% of the cars value. If more than that they will normally write it off.

Sorry to hear this Kev. Weather's not good right now. I drove my car up to Peterhead today and didn't enjoy it one bit. Too wet - no fun whatsoever! I hope you get the outcome you want, but at least the insurance will take care of it. I had no - no claims when i bought my car and the insurance wasn't as bad as i thought so i wouldn't worry too much.

When i had a bit of a collision back in March both my front and rear clams were damaged, but not as badly as i first thought. However, the car was away for two months being repaired, apparently waiting on parts - so i think you'll need to be patient.

At least you came out ok, i know that doesn't make it any better - as soon as i realised we were ok, the priorities change and you start thinking about the damage to the car and the what ifs etc.

Take it easy. :thumbsup

Sorry to hear your bad news. If you push the insurance for a repair you'll probably get it, although as Robin says a decent settlement might be your best option. One thing to factor in is how you'll stay mobile while its off the road. Mine needed a couple of clams and a few other bits and ended up off the road for 4 months - I think clams are permanently on back order. You'll get a decent repair at Steve Walkers but make sure you spend a while checking it over before you pick it up.

Hi Kevin - I saw the aftermath, not long after it happened I guess (police were directing traffic). Glad to hear you're OK, but - having had my M3 written off a couple of months ago - I know how shattering it can be. Like everyone says, the main thing is that you're OK. Cars can be repaired or replaced...
Best Regards,

Steve.

Sorry to hear this as I know how gutting it can be to damage your pride and joy. But as others have said, glad you're ok.

With regards to insurance, I believe (as Tut said) that approx. 60% of the value of the car is generally where they draw the line on repairing it.
Also, when you claim you normally only lose two years of your NCB, so you'll be down to three, not zero (which should make you feel a wee bit better!

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Been looking at the B & C website to price up parts (thanks Jen for the link) for what i think will need replaced, is looking around £7000 ish (inc. vat) for what i think needs replaced then will have the painting for both clams and the labour costs on top.

On the B & C website the Exige Clams for my car are £2250 for the front and £2395 for the rear before vat (glad i was sitting down when looking at it)

Yeah if the car is to get repaired I am expecting it to take a while. Hopefully get it into the garage over next couple days. I work offshore so dont require the car for commuting to work, and I am insured to drive the other 2 cars at the house so will be able to use these now and again if needs be. Due to go offshore next week for a month so that will kill some of the time if the cars to get repaired, but could be a nuisance for getting everything sorted out.

Steve, never knew that about the no claims will have a look into that. Think its looking like it will be borderline for the car being a write off.

Away in to have a proper look at the car and then think im swaying towards giving Steve Walker a call for a chat.

Cheers,

Kevin.

Sorry to hear about your prang - hope it gets sorted to your satisfaction. If there is any risk that it will be written off, and tbh it sounds possible, make sure you remove all your belongings and anything non standard and resaleable before it goes to the garage , especially if you are going to be off shore, as otherwise you may find the car is gone by the time you get back and your personal stuff is lost.

Should have added if it is going to be repaired it will take months, so cash the tax disc in before the end of the week so you get as many full months back as you can. Keith

Hi all, another question.

I take it if i chose a garage down south my insurance company would be okay with transporting the car? Has anyone sent there car down south before for repairs through the insurance?

Cheers

when i crashed my bike, the insurance company would arrange everything if i went with there recomended insurer, but if i chose to go to the garage i wanted, i had to arrange the transportation and pay for it myself.

Seems to be a little blackmail thing they do to get you to go with there own insurers

yeah i was thinking they would do that, women on the phone yesterday had said,'but we have allready paid and arranged for the car to go to the garage and paid for it' . Thing is i wasnt aware that it was going to that garage until the recovery guy came and was too late to get it stopped by then. shall wait and see what happens.

I phoned up Murrays there, asked to speak to craig but he's on holiday. Got Fraser, i asked about getting the car to them to get it inspected. Just gave me the number for Willow Brae Coachworks in Edinburgh and said to arrange to take it to them.

Any one used them before/ reccomend them?

Yes, they fixed Elaine's 111R when some chutney of a valeter reversed it into a wall. Rear clam repair.

Better than factory - you have to be told that it's been fixed, even on the inside where it's been finished and sprayed with as much care as on the outside. Would recommend.
