Geo on a golf

Post by thinfourth » Fri Oct 02, 2009 7:48 pm

I have got a new car

Its turbo charged :thumbsup

Its a S reg golf estate diesel with knackered wheel bearings :tired

it cost £100

Anyway i have removed the front hub carriers and have discovered it has adjustable chamber so not expecting this i just removed the rusty metal bit with the clanky bearing

So how do i set the chamber up properly when i replace the carrier?

Of course i don't want to spend lots of money setting this up so any ideas on how best to do this?

I replaced the ball joints recently on My Mk4 Golf. I think at an S plate, yours is the Mk4 version too?

Basically if you read all the guides etc they all talk about marking the bolts location with paint before removal to retain the camber setting. When I removed the ball joints they were pretty much in the middle of the slot available so when I put the new ones on I set them to pretty much the same and then spent £25 getting the tracking done and that was it. The tracking did need fettled once to get it right but that was mostly because the tyres I had on were to wide and made the sweet spot a little harder to find.

If you want to dig deeper then the have a look at UKMkIVs and VWVortex, both very good community/resources.
