T1r's on S2 Exige

My tyres are getting near the legal limit & was thinking of going for toyo T1r's instead of R888's, has anyone tried these on an Exige ? I'm not being tight but feel a more treaded type tyre may suit our cold & wet weather up here.

I know Ken runs them and seems happy enough but he is all loved up and doesn't post anymore.

They will feel very soft at first but persevere and they are reasonable. I know a certain Mr Crozier has a set of exige wheels in his garage with T1rs on board. Might give you a shotty to see what you think?

I've driven Kens Exige with T1R'S , seemed ok. Once you get past the first 1000miles, however I had a shot of Victors a few weeks back on the 160 and loathed them .......

My experience of T1R's is limited but I'd say the Kumho KU31 Ecsta Sport is a far better (and cheaper) tyre than the T1R. £200 for a full set.

If you're in any doubt (like I was before I bought a set), have a search back through some old tyre threads on here and google to see some of the feedback they get on other forums.

Or, the pirelli pzero nero in S2 wheel sizes - comes in a 195 front section. I have been using them on Egor for the last year until swapping briefly to 888 for FF - will be back on the Pirelli soon enough.

I picked up a set of spare wheels with T1Rs on last winter - work OK on road in all weather - or at least cold and wet, never got round to trying them in snow and ice. Not that bad in dry on road either although definitely take the edge off handling compared to 048.

With Neil on this. From what I read, the Toyo's have a softer side wall than the Kumhos which have XL and therefore some people find T-1R's a bit flexible.
changed to 195 section at the front & KU31's all roound on my elise and they are a very competent tyre. Not a direct comparison because I went from skinny Birdgestone's to the Kumho's but i now don't have 'the fear' every time there's the slightest hith of rain. (apart from this morning when it was a case of not even bothering & take the A4 instead.)

bear that in mind if you want a summer & winter set, you can get a full set of Pro-Race wheels & Kumho's for £700 quid. (fitted with T-1R's, isn't much difference)

Yup, Craig dropped off a set of Exige wheels with T1R's on, still sitting in the garage as yet. You're welcome to try them if you like...

I have ran them on my Exige now in all weather and love them.. Wouldn't change back. Lots more comfortable to drive on, very quiet on the road and great for what I use them for (daily driver).

Cheers for the offer but I doubt I'll be able to tell the difference

I phoned Turriff tyres & they said Kumhos were in short supply just now,
Still 2 months before MOT time, so plenty time to decide what to put on.
