Rear Parking Sensors... Paintable? (NLC)

Post by gorrie » Sun Jun 14, 2009 6:09 pm

Just a quick question, and not all that technical. On a previous car, I had 4 of those little rear parking sensors in the bumper. They were colour coded so didn't stand out.
Just bought a car which has the 4 sensors, but, they are black... so stand out as a bit of an eyesore.
Am I ok to mask off the surrounding area & just give the sensors a light spray to blend them in?... or does that bu66er them up royaly so they will constantly beeep away when reversing thinking that there is an obstacle in the way?

I'm assuming the colour coded ones I've seen on other cars are just painted... but thought I'd just ask before doing something really stupid...

Thanks in advance. :)

Andy.

Just checked mine on the Honda and both the outer rim and the inner eye are spray painted the same as the body colour, a bronze flecked titanium grey.

This does not mean that I can say definitely that spraying them will not affect them, but it looks that way.

Cheers for venturing out to check tut... I think I should be OK, but my nagging doubt is that I know when I had them before, if they got really dirty sometimes they would play up sensing things that weren't there. A quick wipe of the grime/film, and they were OK again. Hate to think a light spray would maybe play havoc.

Yep, that's the problem you just do not know until you try.

What about doing one and checking it out with a woman driver, you can probably remove it with brush cleaner if there is a problem.

What happens when you put some tape on them ?

if they still work okay after that you could paint the tape and check again

I wouldn't paint mine, but then it's never been advisable to paint rear view mirrors or windows
