Anti Rattle Kit ?

Post by Doc883 » Tue Apr 07, 2009 9:34 am

After picking up my 03 Elise S2 from MMC about 6 weeks ago it's back in for a few jobs including a new radiator as one of the end caps has failed and it's leaking coolant. It also had a very annoying rattle coming from behind the passanger's headrest present all the time (has hardtop). MMC have ordered an "anti-rattle kit" !! What's all that about, is it a genuine part that needs repalcing or will they just stuff some cotton wool and use a big gap gun from B&Q to plug the problem

Take the hardtop off. You then won't hear the rattle and will not get disapproving looks when another SE'er sees you on the road.

the anti rattle kit is simply velcro pads that they stick along the inside of the hard top/roof bar to stop it rubbing/rattling...

does work...... sometimes....

They fitted one to my car when i got it last year. I thought it was rubber washers etc. Can't really say i noticed but apparently the roof was squeaking on the test drive. Still plenty of squeaks now actually!

I found these didn't work much better than standard. The only answer is to wind some black electrical tape round the door pins a few times. I cannot drive the car without this mod.

I used blue electrical tape - it seems to work better!

Surprised they dont work on all cars unless they have changed them recently . My doors stay in place and are rattle free .

Well whatever it consisted off the anti-rattle kit has done the business and the roof is now rattle free. Not quite Mercedes S Class refinement but very happy :D Also new speaker fitted, new radiator and hazard switch. Whilst it was @MMC I ordered my 1st mod, a Hurricane Induction Kit. Got the car home and had a spare hour so thought I'd break open the box. Not quite as complicated as swapping engines granted but a lot more involved than I expected. After scrounging a 2 tonne trolley jack I had the wheel and wheel arch liner off. About an hour later I was putting the wheel back on all done. Sounded great on the drive so really looking forward to taking it out on the road. Next mod lined up wil be a Larini Sports Exhaust and sport cat (funds permitting) or a de-cat pipe :D

The very one but not too sure about this comment "Local pick-up or will dismantle (can be separated into 4 pieces) and courier to the buyer if required".
Anyone advise on this :?:

Not an issue, the tips are clamped on either side of the silencers, think the inlet pipe also splits.

Should cost about £15 - £20 to have it delivered
