And lets you spot tight left apexes better, if you're lofty :)

Adjust the wing mirrors properly and there's virtually no blind spot.

isn't it an MOT requirement though?

I mean even box vans where the are completely useless seem to have them...

'98 Lotus Elise - Fun day car
'04 Maserati Coupe GT - Manual, v8, Italian...
'18 Mazda Mx5 - The wife's, so naturally my daily
'19 Ducati Monster 797 - Baby bike bike

For MOT I think its only 2 mirrors you need -doesnt say which two. Not having one doesnt make driving any harder, and especially in an exige type car, you can see pretty much hee haw out the back of an S1 through the scratched cloudy plastic cover

Our new panelvan certainly doesnt have one, and it was delivered like that from the manufacturer.

Not an MOT requirement - as JJ says you only need two. That said, I believe if it's actually fitted it should be in working order so no broken glass etc.

I think putting them in frankly ridiculous applications is something to do with manufacturer's type approval...your local MOT tester won't/shouldn't care.

Interesting...

How would you reckon they'd define it being fitted. I can't remember how the Elise / VX ones are fitted, but if they are the slide on / off type, you you reckon having the plastic bit on the windscreen would classify as there being one fitted?

The one in the VX is almost completely useless thanks to the plastic covers on the 'U' pieces of the roll over bar... and they do get in the way quite a lot, obstruction views at junctions / when you really want to see!
