Re: indicator falling of on s2 series lotus
If it's the fronts, they don't really fall off - just fall out and then hang by the wire. Happened to me a couple of times - both have had me wondering "What's that bump?" followed shortly by "Why's that yellow light flashing at me?"
I think that some people use silicon sealant to hold them in. I am now in the habit of carrying gaffer tape about - largely 'cos if I tried to use silicon it'd be a hideous mess...

If it's the side repeaters, just glue them on. If it's the front ones, silicon sealant as Tim says above, but I don't actually know how you get them off to do this as the only time mine have been off is when they've popped off while driving! Murray's just replaced one for me and they used silicon sealant to secure the new one.
I also carry tape in the car for when things like this happen

Its like a TVR forum in here sometimes
As above - carry tape just in case..
To get the indicators out you need to remove the black rubber trim then, using a screwdriver, press in the catch at the bottom of the indicator until it pops out. There are two catches (kind of like hooks) that hold the indicator in, people that dont take them out properly snap them hence the indicator falling off from time to time.
On the other hand if they have been taken out properly, or never taken out at all, the catches will be in tact and you have nothing to worry about!

Re: indicator falling of on s2 series lotus
Mine were replaced a while back due to condensation in the original units. They have never been out since. So unless the catches were snapped when they fitted the new ones, that's not the cause of mine popping out on the motorway the other week. I think its a lot to do with our pot hole ridden bumpy roads and the gradual vibrations eventually crack the plastic clips.X7LDA wrote:On the other hand if they have been taken out properly, or never taken out at all, the catches will be in tact and you have nothing to worry about!

Re: indicator falling of on s2 series lotus
Happened in my yellow car.
Mines came out on the M8, approx 70mph in inside lane... but there were really high cross-winds which probably tipped it over the edge. On mine, it wasn't the clip that snapped, it was actually the part of the clam they clip under that had come away (about 1cm).
If it happens on the M-way, reduce your speed.. otherwise you risk body/paint damage as the inticator unit whips all over the front of your car (especially in high wind). I reduced to 40mph (trying not to be too much of a hazzard to other drivers) but that still wasn't enough and the black rubber seal went flying. Had to pull in to the hard-shoulder and leg it a couple of hundred meters back to retrieve.
I tried to mend with that liquid-plastic stuff but it wasn't great... so clear silicone did the trick. And I always kept duck tape in the boot of the Elise after that.

Re: indicator falling of on s2 series lotus
I've had this a few times - the bottom plastic clip rubs the crash structure over bumps and eventually snaps.
I made a wee aluminium bracket thing to replace the plastic hook and also attached a nylon chord thing similar to http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Indicators as a fallback - its been fine since.
Not sure silicone sealant is a great idea since the bleed valve for the radiator is most easily accessible through the passenger side indicator?

Same problem as _ali. I also made a new clip with help from http://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elise/e ... rlens.html
