Engine rough at Low Revs

Post by russellphoto » Tue Jul 22, 2008 12:16 am

Not being the most mechanically minded, any clues as to what would cause the engine to sound like an old beetle at low revs? It happens up to about 3000rpm and is also down on power. It has been parked up with little use for the last month due to holidays and then its just started this week.

Any help would be appreciated.

Help us to help you by telling us what car you have ... S1/S2, Rover K16/Rover VVC/Toyota variant, ...

If it's an S1 and it's been sitting outside in the rain I would guess that the plug bores have got some water in them causing a load of misfiring. Remove spark plug cover, remove plug leads and inspect, dry out bores with air line or hair dryer.

Cheers,
Robin

It is an S1. I'll try that - thanks very much

Thanks for the advice. There was about an inch of water sat in one of the plug bores. A bit of kitchen towel to soak up the water and it runs just fine again.

Run a bead of sealant around the plug top cover - might stop it happening again.
