anyone thats had undertray powdercoated...

Post by Jamie84 » Wed Jul 02, 2008 3:45 pm

U gave my rear undertray into powdertec under the kingston bridge , last week for powdercoating .

I went in today to pick it up and in a nice manner asked the young guy if it could be redone as the finish was not really to a good standard .

he took it back , gave me my £30 quid back and said it wouldnt be a problem .

Am I being too picky ? There was dry parts all over the tray and various parts that needed rubbed down correctly and in general the standard of finish was not one Id like to fit back to a 20k + car ..

If the finish was on a set of wheels , no one in their right mind would have accepted it , I kinda expected The finish to be to a similar standard to a Matt black wheel.

Am I asking for too much ? Everyone else had a decent finish ?

Mine was a wee bit rough and I don't think he'd rubbed it down properly but for £15 and on a bit of the car nobody sees other than the edges, I couldn't really care less. Plus, that was on the Elise and I've now got an Exige which comes with black diffuser as standard. Surely yours is black too? Why you getting it powdercoated? Was it damaged?

Sound like he knew it wasn't up to standard - see what they do 2nd time around.

No, but bearing in mind that it will be mainly hidden - I would probably accept it if the most visible part is good finish.

yeah mines was black already , but was very tatty looking and discoloured at visible parts at the side ...

Funny you say he may have knew it was a dodgy job , When the young guy gave me it he said I should go out side in the light and see if it looked okay , perhaps he knew it was crap but thought Id maybe accept it anyway . No hesitation whatso ever in taking it back from me and offering to re do it.

I have just gave my car one almighty detail, its absolutly gleaming so kinda want the tray too look good also .

let you know how it goes secong time round :thumbsup
