IMHO they are fantastic in the dry! And the noise! I missed it on the return journey, awesome! :D

However, on the way out with cold tyres we went through a bit of water on the road, not standing water, just wet... Fcuk me they're slippery!

Having considered the options, I am now saving for a new set of wheels so I can have a set for fun days out, I don't really think I could live with them day to day :(

No problem Rich.. the terrifying loss of grip through wet bits is just a "feature". I think they would charge extra for it if they could

I am glad you had a chance to get them up to full temp on the good roads. I think they pressures were a fair bit too high when we hit the wet bits. Need to get a decent gauge to check them. With the +-2psi issue we had, you cant be sure what they were.

I think Shug suggested 22/24 for track.

What pressure settings do you use on the road Shug?
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

TBH I've fcuked about with the pressures so much on this set that I can't actually remember what I used to have... At one stage it was something faintly rediculous like 19/21 on the double yellows, but it varys with each tyre - so it's really a personal judgement thing....

I *think* mine are currently 20/22, but they are sh*t, whatever I have them set at.....

I did have the rears at 35 for an autotest, but that's really for 'specialist' handling characteristics ;)

Looks like we may have had them 4-6 psi too high then, might explain the weirdness a little.

Or too low - seriously, they do seem to vary and it's only really experimentation with the set you've got at that time that gives you the right answer.

I'd never advocate tyre testing on the public road, but it might be worth finding a short run (like the Dukes Pass) where you can set them in the car park, go for a run, check temps and pressures and adjust from there.

Then, afterwards, have a barbecue by the water to let them cool and give you cold pressures ;)

....Like I say, would never advocate that behaviour...

I discovered the Maxsports about six years ago, which is one reason why other S_E owners started using them.

As Shug said, it is now a lottery. I have been through all the configurations of yellows, reds, blues, and whereas they used to be great in the early days in both wet and dry, but never in standing water, they buggered around with them, changed manufacturers, changed colour codings, and worst of all, changed compounds so that you never really knew what you were getting.

I laid off them for three years, but tried again with this set, supersofts on the front, very softs on the rear. Pretty poor in the wet or any trace of greasiness, which is mostly how the tracks have been, but good at KH on Friday in blazing sun and warm tarmac. But then most tyres would be.

Doubt if I will use them again, but as I have not finished a track day for six months, I could run on f****ng banana skins.

Will be fun being back on track with you.... Been a while.

Hopefully, this engine of mine will be running before long and I'll get it back on KH - seems like a lifetime since my last outing...
