door rattles?

Post by ninja » Sun Aug 07, 2005 10:18 pm

ok guy's,

my doors were rattling on my S2

i had previously fixed this with some duct tape (on the striker pins) but this was not really very hard wearing! so i've used shrink wrap - from an electrical store - the stuff they use for insulating cables.

i had to buy loads of the stuff for the 4" that i needed so i've got loads left.

if you want some, email me - honestly no trouble as i've no idea what i'll do with the 5m i have sitting in my garage!!!

it's dead easy - slip it over the stricker pin - get a lighter and heat it up and it shrinks - put another one on and do the same then well then you're done! that's it fixed - very very easy and a bit harder wearing than the tape solution.

Or you could loosen the striker pin, move it in a bit then tighten it up :thumbsup

However, it does mean that on mine the door isn't quite flush so I may take you up on the offer.

The striker pins were a recall from lotus, were they not? I'm sure Marrays should have replaced them with the correct sized item for you...

I did but no recall, just some tape round the pins then after that didn't work they moved the pins in a bit.

Cool. Pretty sure they were a recall even so... So you'd be entitled to replacements.

Having said that, I'm sure I've heard of dealers just wrapping the pins as well, so maybe not...

i've checked to see if there's an outstanding recall on my car and there's not. my pins were wrapped when i got the car but it was only tape so no idea what's been done previously. the shrink wrap seems to hold up a bit better - not really marked but then it was only "installed" on saturday!

only time will tell
