IIRC it's only an M8 and it's in alloy head, so probably just an 8.8, so I doubt much more than 25Nm is called for.

Cheers,
Robin

I would say now its closer to 40.. but its hard to tell by hand. Will have a go tomorow, see if I make it to knockhill first. Will find out how much fluid if any I loose then decide if I will go on track or not.

No.4 cylinder found wet after turning car over and engine stop turning... :? Hydraulic locked on start up. It had been sitting for 3 hours after a run a with pressure still in the cooling system. small leak into the inlet manifold. The rate of loss if very small and it runs fine. So plenty spare coolant with me for SIDC and the third eye on the temp gauge all morning.

Gave Dan a phone and he diagnosed the fault as an inlet manifold gasket failure. So he is sending one up.

So, Saturday after Knockhill, the inlet manifold will be comming off for a look. Anyone fancy a mini spanner n sponges at mine after Knockers.
Might be fitting a new throttle body to a 160 at the same time.
John ,

What time are you aiming to be back home :?: , so I can give you a hand  or I might head for knockers depending on what time I stop being a joiner
Expecting to do the whole morning and then back home for 12.30ish. All afternoon available, Lesley escaping to her mothers till after teatime so plenty time to do a bit. May just be as quick taking the rear clam off and having a good poke around cleaning out the grass and road muck thats there. Cant be that hard to do, plenty write ups kicking around.

Well after the first set of quick laps the engine overheate and steam was pouring out of the engine cover. Nursed it back to the pits and parked it up.

Let it cool down and topped it up with coolant. Let the engine idle for a bit and it was doing the normal fan on100, fan off 90. Had a drive round the pits for a bit and it all seamed fine.

Had a few low speed laps and came in to check the coolant, no drop, temp stable.

Out for a good hammering for 10 laps, back in after a cool down lap, no drop, temp stable.... :?:

Preceded to thrash it to death for the rest of the morning and at no time did I loose any level have any temperature wobbles.. its like it fixed itself....

Now I know as well as everyone else that things that are broke dont just fix themselves but the car is running sweet as a nut with no coolant loss or problems with temp so what am I supposed to do... Give it back to Dan and say fix it.... fix what?

Check the coolant again in the morning.

Warm it up and then thrash it again tomorrow to get it good and hot - I reckon you may well see the same thing happen.

Cylinder head gasket, low or cracked liner, porous cylinder head (less likely if it doesn't continue to spew coolant/steam).

A hydrocarbon sniff of the expansion tank would make sense too ...

Cheers,
Robin
