Placement of axle stands

Post by dezzy » Sun Jul 15, 2007 6:49 pm

I just got a pair of axle stands yesterday and used them for the first time today to raise up the front of the car. Raised the car one side at a time using the standard 'A' jacking points and placed the axle stands in the same place I think Dom placed them when he very kindly let me change pads at the Domsport facility.

I think I put them in the same place, and I guess I really should have asked this question before I did it, but is this an okay place to put the axle stands:

Remember I'm a numpty when it comes to car maintenance and technical knowledge . . . is this a wishbone I've sat them on?

Going to be raising the rear of the car in the next few days. Where should I place the axle stands for that? Should I just do the same and raise each side at a time? Is it okay to have the rear lifted and the front down, considering most of the weight is nearer the rear?

Thanks,
D

Mac just called me and kindly explained that I've been a bit of a numpty and should not put axle stands there again! Thanks for the explanation mate. I'll make sure I call first next time!

Off to check those bits are still straight . . . .

Checked them against a small spirit level I've got (about the straightest thing I could find) and they still appear to be straight. Phew!

Thanks again Mac. :thumbsup
