Soundproofing behind plastic parcel shelf?

Post by james » Mon Jul 02, 2007 6:15 pm

As I am now on a soundproofing (or should that be sound-poofing I hear you say) mission I'm gonna put dynamat on the floor.

I've taken the seats out but I was wondering does the plastic cover behind the seats that covers the top half of the firewall have any sound insulation on the back of it?

I ask this to save me having to take it off to find out.

If there isnt, then I might put some on the back, if there already is, then I wont take it off.

Anyone know?

Was it the kind of sound matting that is normally glued to the back of the plastic cover?

Mine just had thin air until I met metal.

What's the spec of your car - Ours is a S2 race tech, maybe the later cars have something?

If you're putting the car on a mega-diet, yes. More heat into the cabin & lots more noise though. Unless you're dying for a mega-light car, I wouldn't bother.

What? The installation of a bit of soundproofing - yes I think so. The floor resonates at certain RPM and for the sake of a couple of kg's of dynamat I think it will be a more civilised place to be.

Was thinking of putting in something behind the plastic "firewall cover" as it would only be a few grams and would reduce some engine noise.

its my daily runner after all and it hardly gets thrashed so I doubt Id notice the extra weight.

The resonating floor can be solved by jamming something under the pax seat.
