Just seen this. Glad you're getting on ok with the car Stewart.

) it will trigger sometimes when going over a rough surface. As I said, I only really got it all working to pass the MoT and for selling it.. If you look under the bonnet, you'll probably see the wire soldered back together (was cut when I bought the car). Just crimp on a bullet connector. You can get the Lotus controller (I had 2 - sorry, sold them..) but rare and go almost instantly on the forums. There is sometimes a group buy, but still talking +£400 for one. I don't think it's needed TBH, especially in the dry..

Why did you have to tell me you had them
Anyway, I'm not bothered about buying it, will just disconnect
Re: New VX220 owner in Aberdeenshire
I sold them last year anyway.. I'm personally not sure what all the fuss is about... The brakes felt the same to me with one installed, and I don't think I ever drove the car hard enough to get the system to really activate.. So sold it..
I can understand how a properly functioning ABS system would be better if you are pushing on in the wet / damp, but driving to the conditions with suitable tyres will have the same effect pretty much.

Re: New VX220 owner in Aberdeenshire
I run the ABS at all times, it's far from the most sophisticated system out there, but not as bad as people make out.
I run 17/17 which helps a bit.
You learn to read the road as you are braking, even giving a small lift if you notice a pothole that may cause you issues.

Re: New VX220 owner in Aberdeenshire
the abs is never a problem if you stick to the standard 17/17 with standard widowmaker profile tyres.
I'm convinced it's once you give the car more rake by lowering the front that it happens.

Re: New VX220 owner in Aberdeenshire
Its the differances in rolling radius relationship between front and rear tyres, and the lack of capablity of the standard ABS system to cope with it. Other cars can have similar problems if they vary too far from standard sizes. The Exige unit must operate over a larger range of sizes, as it has no problems with a variety of wheels..GBOBM wrote:the abs is never a problem if you stick to the standard 17/17 with standard widowmaker profile tyres.

Re: New VX220 owner in Aberdeenshire
The exige unit is a 4 channel one and uses the readings from all wheels whereas the vx220 one is a 2channel job.

Re: New VX220 owner in Aberdeenshire
The Europa had the 2 channel and in nearly 6 years of ownership I only had the ice mode issue once despite various suspension settings and wheel and tyre configurations. Dont know if its a set up or a driving style thing
