The first race I had no idea what the cars were behind me, for as a Newbie I was on the front of the grid, and it was not till I started lapping that I saw anybody.

Second race was for the leading places in the heats, all saloons, but some powerful engines and most were road cars set up as track racers. I got a phone call on Monday asking why I did not go on Sunday. Turned out it was a special weekend, their 40th Aniversary, and if I had won just one of the three races or placed high, I would have won the cup and £700.

Bollocks.
