If its going to be a business car would it make more sense to get a commercial version of a corsa or something (thinking taxation angle) ?

Also thinking from a business presentation point of view - I know you said that you guys do outside catering, so would look very professional turning up in a "company van" as opposed to in a car with the seats folded flat.
When I changed our van last year we went for a pimped out black version, and its been amazing how many clients have made comments about it looking neat.

not a business vehicle. since the business is very small, accountant has advised me to buy a personal car and claim expense. so am looking for a small passenger car.

You can claim expenses on a van too. If you are VAT registered you'll also be able to claim back the VAT on a van.
You should still be able to put through some expenses for your own personal car too.
