And again....
Just noticed my credit card statement was higher than I expected....
someones withdrawn $500 worth of chips on some gambling site!
That's the 2nd time I have had this happen to me. This time I had used the card a grand total of once at digitaldirect.com to buy a TV.
Bloody scumbags!

Do a chargeback on the amount. It's like an indemnity claim, basically you say to the bank "that wasn't me!" and then they investigate. If all the account security stuff is not 100% then the company that sold the chips looses out.
Worth a phone call, also it makes you look like what your doing!
good luck with it though!

Ran it on a mates machines who has a mrs has a penchance for hardcore porn from crappy p2p software and found several key stroke loggers. I advised he either cancels all cards if used else keep a very close eye on them if he canno cancel them.

I can only recommend that you use a linux "live cd" (e.g. knoppix or ubuntu) which allows you to boot up your computer running linux off CD (no way it can be tampered with) to do any online banking.
Use a low-limit credit card exclusively for online shopping and don't use it for anything else.
Cheers,
Robin

Linux scares me.
I can cope with windows XP (When its not doing things for the greater good or whatever it decides to do) I was better with 98SE as I could bully that into submission with a DOS prompt....
I have been told about Knoppix and I googled unbutu are they simple enough for me to begin with? WIll all my software suddently curl up and die? (I have loads of old games I lke to dust off)

Even then there are more draconian methods.. was trying to purchse something from the Aria website with my work RBS card. Kepts erroring and ended up using my own card. Got a vmail from RBS re possible fraud.
"Our system picked up some possible fraud this morning with your card being used on a google checkout"
"yes that was me trying to buy something, it kept erroring telling me I had put in the wrong number"
"Yes we have seen some fraudulent activity on the google checkout so we now decline all transations"
"And if I want to use it as it is now quickly catching up with paypal?"
"You need to call should it be declined"

also worth making sure you sign up for the Authenticated by Visa (or similar) system for you card. Cuts scammers down as you need a pw for your card to be accepted even with all card info.
Gun laws should be revoked for these scammers - if only the police would take it seriously!

I think the term scammers is a bit too soft too. It's theft by deception, a scam makes you think of something that Del Boy would get up to when there's no real victim.
I can't fault RBS - they have been on the ball with me - calling me in the shop on my mobile to make sure it's me before putting through any major transaction.
Means I can sleep safe in the knowledge that Mandy can't go mega nuts with the card when I'm not there!

Rich - you don't need to install Linux on your machine - just use as normal with whatever OS you prefer - then when you want to do online banking or make online purchase, reboot from the "live CD" or whatever it is and run firefox straight from the CD; when done, reboot and you're back in normal OS.
Of course you could just switch to linux totally, but that's a whole heap of effort if you use programs other than a word processor and web browser.
Cheers,
Robin
