Been looking at a Freelander Sport on Autotrader, looks the bolocks.

A car for the missus obviously but I think it looks the part.

Anyone live nearby got a spare five mins to give it a look over? Is it as clean and shiny as it looks in the pics or have they been taken carefully to hid the scuffs and dents? Bit difficult from an oil rig

Garage is 5mins from me - I can go take a squint if you want? Its a garage that used to be a petrol station and has all sorts of cars, if you know what I mean, but they do have a fairly wide selection.

D'you know John, you are so right! My missus would go bananas over that too. Hoping to save up for a Freelander 2 but that one has got me thinking...

We had a freelander out for a test drive and I wasnt impressed at all. Titchy boot for the size of the car. Had friends with one too and they had nothing but problems with it. The rear window would go up and down of its own accord. They went out one winter morning to find snow IN the car..but the car was completely sealed! Dont know about freelander2 though!

I have a contact who works with Landrover who rekons this car has only had one warranty issue that was fixed and other than that it is top spec... DVD player with screens bespoke fitted in the headrests..

My mother is on her 2nd freelander. First one had a few probs, including transmission problems. Her current one is the V6, and has been trouble free, if not a bit on the thirsty side.

Td4 engine is out of a BMW 3 series, plenty of torque, I've driven one off-road, everywhere in second gear. Worked well, for a small 4x4.

that's interesting to know...presumably the 2 litre from 320d and the like, 4 cyl, single turbo etc IIRC...imagine if it was the 3 litre bi-turbo 6

I'd have to agree with the above - my old man has a 54 plate (1.8 K series ) and every time I drive it I come away equally as unimpressed

Plasticky inside, crap driving position (the seat's too high relative to the wheel, plus you're peering thru the very top of the windscreen, and I'm hardly a lofty chap)...

The Td4 is supposedly much better tho'

Wrong - the BMW mill is a 6 cyl, yours is a 5 (hence the Td5 ) which I think is LR's own creation

There are a few older gentlemen that I work with have them and they think they are great "cars"...

This one has the "Sport" suspension which has a fron anti roll bar fitted and stiffer springs and is meant to drive as well as a BMW X5..

Having driven a freelander with air susp (50th anniversary one) and an X5 I would be amazed if they`d managed that.....

I`ll go take a look at it anyway and check bodywork etc

Well they shoul dhave used the 6 Cyl engine, might have given it a bit more poke!
