VXR Racing Driver Competition

Post by gorrie » Wed Aug 08, 2007 6:16 pm

Has anyone ever been to Teeside Karting? If so, is it just outdoors or is there indoors also?

Basically, I've been selected for the Semi-Finals of the VXR competition... but, although my 1st choice was for Edinburgh... I've been given Teeside. Never been there before... no idea of track layout or anything.

If anyone has any details of the venue/track, I would be very pleased to receive them. I am now about to try and obtain a 'Saturday Pass' from Mrs G... wish me luck.

I'd better start my diet if I decide to go... coz tubby tuckers get no-where on karts.

Don't stand a chance mate, but thanks....

They've picked 2000 people to do the karting over 6 venues. I make that an average of 333 people at each venue. Only the 2 fastest lap times from each venue progress to the final 12. :leave

If it's single engine indoor, then 14.5stones is gonna be a killer. If it's twin engined outdoors, then my weight will hurt a little less... but then my lack of ability will shine

It's a day out if nothing else, but if I can get more info on the place then it might stop me making such an arse of myself.

Strange that you got Teeside Gorrie :? Is it the autodrome that a few on here visited earlier this year? http://www.teessideautodrome.co.uk/

I got selected for the Edinburgh one (although I suspect it might actually be that place out in Tranent). Haven't done any karting for a few years now, so no chance of progressing any further, but should be fun! Should be good entertainment if only for the ones that are convinced they're bound for F1

Best of luck with it :thumbsup

I've just had an email through from the VXR folks to say that I have been accepted into the semi-finals too! :D But i did get my first choice, which is Raceland in East Lothian, which I know pretty well!!

I think that the Teeside place will be Karting Northeast (http://www.kartingnortheast.com/karting_01.htm), which I went to when I entered the be a F1 Driver Competition a few years back. It is pretty good and is outdoor. I think back then they had twin engined karts but it looks as if they are now running t390cc single engined Biz karts.

Hope that helps and best of luck with the karting! See you in the final :thumbsup

Good Luck Guys... wish I was coming to Raceland too :( could have had a mini-SE meet

Did you guys click on the 'confirm' thing? I did, and it says I'll get some details shortly.

I think it may be the autodrome... it just said Teeside Karting... and if I Google that, it seems to be the Autodrome I think. Google Maps has a direct hit at "Redcar & Cleveland Offroad Centre, Middlesbrough, Cleveland, TS6 6XH" and it's the same tel# as the one on the Autodrome website.

Hope it ain't a morning session, for the drive down.... I'm a 'late out of bed' kinda guy.

Really unfortunate luck :(

You could see if Gorrie could take your place in Edinburgh to save him travelling to Teeside?

Hope the weekend in Ireland make sup for it! :D

teeside - we all went there earlier this year, yep. The kart track uses the same long [edt:-] right hand banked sweeper as the big track, but other than that, no idea what its like. its pretty curvy, and I recommend google earth to give you an idea :)

Dave... better call them mate. I got my arrival details for Teeside about a week and a half ago. I've since had a further email advisng of the format for the day. You will be allocated a 30min slot for sign-on, if you aren't there on time you are out... and there are different times for the finals depending on whether you are a morning or afternoon booking.

FWIW, I emailed them and asked to be swapped to Edinburgh if poss.... I got no reply to that. I'm still planning on going to Teeside tomorrow as long as I get up early enough... I calculate I need to leave the house at around 8am to make my sign-on time, which may be tricky after beer tonight.

Dedicated racing drivers don't go out on the lash the night before a big race!! :D

You will probably find that there is about and hour and a bit between the end of your closing time for signing on and the time that you actually do your qualifying laps - plenty of recovery time!

Dave - I agree that you should try and call to confirm whether you should be going or not. There was a guy in Edinburgh that turned up last weekend and they didn't have any record of him on their lists. He did have all the emails etc about it though so in the end I think they agreed to let him take part.

Good luck to both of you tomorrow!!

John... been less than impressed with the admin TBH. (think most people have had the 'Congratulations' email then followed by the 'Sorry you are not old enough' one.

I've got an email saying that I need to be there at 11:30am for sign-on to the semi-final and (if successful) my Grand-Prix would be 14:15pm. Fair enough I thought. Leave 8am, and if I'm lucky enough to stay for the final I should be home around 18:00...

Now I have another email stating that my sign-on time is the same (so, leave house at 8am still). The 'semi-final' is just a 15min Qualy period to set a fast lap which will be 1.5hrs after my sign on (so approx 1pm-1:30pm).... and that if you set a time in the top 12 in the AM, the GP will be 14:15pm... if you set a top 12 time in PM your GP will be 18:30 !! My sign-on time crosses AM/PM, and the 1.5hrs wait would mean I'm a PM Qualy surely.... so, does that mean my final has been changed to 18:30 ?? If so, I'm not gonna be back home until like 22:00...

Anyone have a number for this crowd?

Take a good book, and the rest of the time you can spend looking for my tripod I left down there!
