Did anyone see that Dario Franchitti crash ?

Post by gorrie » Tue Aug 07, 2007 9:57 pm

I just caught a snippet on the news this morning (dunnoe if it's old news)... flipped right over and was hit by a few cars... and walked out of it.

"I opened my eyes at one point and saw I was upside down ad about 30ft from the ground... I thought 'this doesn't look good'..." jeeze.

The really ridiculous thing about that story is that Scotland has an international sporting hero that is basically unknown here. I guess that's the price we pay for seeing the world through London’s eye's (and being - in every sense of the word - a colony!). :?

Peach of a crash.

I used to watch the kart series a couple of years ago but the ovals are usually a tad dull. Very dangerous mind you.

Reminds me something I read (may have been in Murray Walkers disappointing autobiography)

New commentator at a US drag strip being coached "Now remember, if there's an accident, don't get excited and stay calm. Remember, there may be relatives of the driver about. Of course, I don't have to tell you that there's no profanity either...."

First run, one of the competitors goes up in flames and the car flips into the air, a burning fireball - his commentary:

"Holy s**t, look at that f**ker go!"

Keep up at the back http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... &start=135 :)

I have been harping on about how great the IRL is for donkeys and am obviously a big fan of Dario's. He is once again doing particularly well this year and has lead the championship since winning the Indy 500.

He is a top bloke and always makes time to speak to us when we manage to get to a race. We even managed to blag lunch from him last September at Sears Point, CA in the Honda hospitality. His dad kindly looked after us and his brother, Marino, was also at the table and was happy to chat :thumbsup

Stewart... I didn't catch this years Indy 500... but I was loving last years... After all that distance, the rookie lost the race on the last turn... great viewing.

Deja vu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK1VzL_n3ms

Twice in a week is getting careless... The onboard footage is rather scary.

Edit - nice trick by Danica too, passing the course car while going backwards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3coty3x ... ed&search=

The man's got a death wish!
Awesome spectacle, and if nothing else he is dramatically raising the profile of the sport in this country :drive
