sorry to hear this sad news.

Defo reality check, my parents were totally against exige for this exact reason.

The girlfriends Parents were totally against it also because apparently rangers chairman David murray lost his legs in an elise . Dunno if this is true or not .

My thoughts go out .

Just read those posts.... such a shame, and so young.

Although the exact details aren't on there, I doubt the Exige is a main factor in this though as he had owned an Elise for 2yrs. I guess it's one of those things, wrong place, wrong time... could have been an S2000, Cayman or anything probably.

Does make you think though...

Sad news - doubt the exige was at fault, could've been a blowout, or swerving to avoid an animal- we'll never know

David Murray had a blowout at the end of the Longniddrie (sp) straight and plowed into a tree, one leg amputated below the knee by the accident, the other above the knee in hospital. The fact it was a Lotus was pretty irrelevant, according to his right hand man at Murray International Metals (my main client) Just an unfortunate accident. But that said probably the reason he's suceded.

I don't think he was driving the Lotus at the time....
I read it on one of the forums, can't remember the exact car but "puntoish"...

Those old posts are upsetting, we have all been there, keen to learn and eager, yet in this case it was cut short in the worst possible way.

Very sad :(

I have read some of your posts and feel the need to add mine as I knew him personally through the seloc lotus forum and some foreign events I regularly met him at.
First and foremost, our (girlfriend and I) deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
The funeral is today.. we would have been if we hadn't had to come back yesterday.

The accident took place AFTER a night time Lotus rally near Ostend.. which my girlfriend and I were also participating in.. (I'm just back from holiday). He (Dries) told us to follow him all night during the rally as we were unable to read the map as it was in Km not miles. There was an after rally BBQ from 2am till 4am after which everybody went their seperate ways.

My girlfriend was over with me in Belgium for the first time last weekend ,and Dries was the only guy at the event who realy took the time to talk to her as she obviously couldn't speak the language. So you can imagine she and I were devestated at the news of his untimely death.
It serves as a serious reminder that life can so fragile..
He was the youngest new exige owner in Belgium. We'll sadly never know what happened..

We'll miss him.
