Sanjoy,
Just looked at my ferry booking for the Spa F1 (Depart Thurs/Mon) and we were £263 which was a special offer with the Elise going free and 2 people in a cabin.
Cheers

Never found a price below £600 for two people, car and cabin. So haven't used it...yet.

You need to share a cabin with randoms to get good prices.

We're heading over at the end of this month and we're paying about £280 for the VX, plus two passengers in an outside cabin (was a special rate). Last year I think the same trip in May was about £370.

Must watch out for those deals a bit more carefully then, I guess.

Also as a bit of advice, I would not use the web site as they do not seem to show the special offer.
When I used the website it inidcated that the price was going to be £600 but when phoned up they told me there was a special deal going, hence £263

Last year for LeMans we were 6 sharing 2 cabins in 3 cars (2x Cateringvans & an M3) - worked out roughly £220 each IIRC - beware the Stella in the bar tho

Sanjoy - we sat and debated that very question last year on the Rosyth ferry, and concluded that when you take into account the extra fuel, an additional overnight in a B&B each way somewhere in North France (as you can't drive much further than Dover from Scotland in a day) there was next to nothing in it (if you managed to get the crossing for about £350-£400).
And to be honest, I couldn't be bothered with the boring UK leg of the drive anyway

Also, unless they change their timetable next year the outward crossings only leave on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday and the returns on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (each arriving the day after they leave).
Hope that helps!
