Cut a long story short, car appears to be leaking engine coolant. Had to call the AA yesterday to a car park in Glasgow as whilst driving had a massive burst of water and steam eject onto my windscreen. AA says clip connecting a hose to the front radiator had come loost, he fixed and car seemed fine all day. However since the point he topped up engine fluid, I seem to have lost between 2 and 3 inches from the coolant plastic tank.

Cold Engine Glasgow:
1 inch from plastic rim.

Warm engine after 60 mile drive:
2 inch from plastic rim

Cold engine after night in drive (which is on a downwards hill...???):
3 inch from plastic rim.

Not driving the car to Alton Towers (which is now bloody delayed by 90min ), parked up in my mums garage until I can take it back to MMC.

Any ideas? Hoping not a biggy. Car seemed fine on the 60 mile drive after the AA, but on occassion I could smell a "fresh batch" of Engine Coolant which I put down to the old stuff which had leaked.

In a word, F*CK.

I have access to here on my mobile, would love to hear your thoughts - praying not bad.

I would assume that the system hasn't been bled properly - I would assume that once bled properly it will be fine. The coolant in the tank is going down as some of the air in the system is finding it's way into the tank and is being replaced by fresh coolant (this is the system bleeding itself); however, there will still be air in the radiator circuit and you need to keep bleeding it until that is all out. As you probably won't be doing that yourself, I won't bother to explain how to do it

Ta for bleeding info. On mobile hard to write. . . Will get mmc to show and explain. . . Really frustrated, we just passing preston and it's very wet. . . Left tom tom at home in rush . . . How for from preston to alumn towers? On m6 i'm bloody passenger. . . Sorry can't find line break on this Crap phone.

Alton is about an hour south.

The system will self belled over time but as RObin says not completely. Assuming it's the same as an S1 it's not difficult as long as you don't mind loosing a bit of skin.

Thanks guys, looks like you were right - engine not bled. Anyway MMC have "overfilled" the coolant tank, and he reckons come morning it will need a slight top up.

If it's overfull it will probably vomit it out of the pressure cap until it gets back to normal.

It was never going to and even it it was...covered under warranty!
