Broughton Road EDI, safe enuf 4 the liz on a Sat night!?

Post by Scottd » Sat Jun 23, 2007 12:10 am

Will be staying at a mates on Broughton Road (or is it Street!?) on Sat night. I'm sure I remember parking my lovely Fiat Brava (Diesel!) there a number of years back, only to find a half eaten kebab parked on the roof...

Do you reckon the Liz will be alright there... if not, where else is safe. I don't mind a bit of a Taxi ride, if it's gonna give me peace of mind!! Plus I'd be able to get a lift to 'safe parking area' on the Sunday.... once conscious!

Cheers

You might be better sticking it off the main drag on somthing like east clairmont street. It's a nice residential area about halfway down broughton street and shold be pretty quiet.

It runs paralell to broughton road so you wont have much of a walk werever you find yourself kipping on saturday :)

I personally would NOT recommend parking it their. I used to live on that street, and it can be roudy as hell.

Not sure where to recommend, perhaps overnight in a car park such as the St James, or the Omni Centre? Will cost you, but worth it for peace of mind.

You are welcome to dump it in my drive next to mine, however I am a good 6 miles from Broughton.

Gary.

Steve, east clairmont street (where ever the fek that is :) ) sounds at least like an option. Don't reckon I'll get there till about 5 or 7 PM, it being residential I guess it might be kinda full tho!?

Gary, don't suppose that 6 miles away happens to be on the way in from the Forth Raod Bridge?! :beer

Are the St James / Omni Centre safe enough then!? Can't imagine them costing much more than a Taxi surely!? £10-ish?!? Are they kinda near Broughton Street?

Thanks!!

If you stick in eh7 4lb to google maps, that'll sort you out :) If you want somewhere really quiet, you can try and squeeze it in down on clairmont grove - it's really quiet and i leave my car down there regularly, albeit with the nose sticking out onto the road from my mates drive ;)

Would be a 10 minute walk to the omni centre from there if you want to stick the car in a proper car park, but personally, i've left mine out on the street every time i've been out in edinburgh and never had an issue.

Cheers,

Steve

Would'nt reccommend Parking 'overnight' in Broughton Street any night let alone Sat. Too much in the thick of it at closing time..domestics, pi**ed up guys etc. East Clairmont Street or one of the streets off it would be okay as use it a lot for overnight parking and never had any problems. (apart from traffic wardens but its Sunday so your fine).

Scotty, used to live on Easy Claremont Street, 5 mins walk, and the VX never once was touched.

If you drive along East Claremont street you will see a crescent, try and get parked in there, against the wall of the gardens, opposite the houses, it is sheltered, and will go unnoticed by any neds/drunks!

again, a no for broughton street, but Albany street (first left off Broughton Street as you come down the hill), Dublin Street (runs parallel to broughton Street at the end of albany street or Abercromby Place (straight on at Albany Street) will all be fine.

I used to live on Forth Street and Broughton street is a bad one given the Kebab shop at the top, and the nedtastic bars up at the Omni centre. However, I heartily recommend a chicken donner from the Piccante, followed by a deep fried Mars bar. mmm :)

Yep, agree with the above. Dont park in permit zones but single yellows would be fine. If you like you could park it at mine. EH7 5NE. Private parking tucked out of sight only around 5 minutes walk from Broughton. HTH cheers Ed

If you can't get parked at Ed's, I'm only 2 minutes round the corner from there and have an off street allocated space that will be free tonight and tomorrow as i'll be in Glasgow. It's in Harrismith Place (EH7 5PE) if you want it. Space 17/4. :thumbsup
