Dampers just brilliant

Post by hiscot » Sun Apr 15, 2007 11:21 pm

I got the car with worn konies that poped a seal so i fitted s/h Ledas fitted with 300/350 road springs and whilst they where a big improvement over the worn std dampers boy the squeeked like a garden gate
i replaced all the sphecial bearings this year but after seeing a set of dynamic dampers for sale went for them
they are two way remote type dampers with eibach 400/550 springs ( I suspect valved for 550/700 race spec )
fitting them required a pair of S2 ride height rear brackets as the dynamics have a short body desighned to fit straight onto the early S1 (160mm ride brackets) to lower the car to around 120mm , using my std 140mm brackets droped the height to around 107 mm unladen, far too low for road use as the front would be around 100 or less
The S2 brackets are 5mm ride height higher than the fragile S1 early ones ( Thanks Steve B for info ) so should give me the 123 ish i want without preload on the springs or requiring helper springs i also saved 6 kilos from the steel Ledas and fitted the 10 notch rack plates
Although I now have harder springs the rear is more supple than with the ledas, (I am using marked settings already on the dampers ) whilst the front is quite a lot stiffer but only shows on very poor rutted road surfaces
The differance is unbelivable no body roll gives a sence that your not even trying it just glides around the corners i look at the speedo and go wow , i laugh and grin as corners feel like a blackpool ride ,S bends not had as much fun since my motor bike days , no roll pitch bounce
Why diddnt some one tell me when i first got the car fit decent dampers
its one of the best mods ever
roll on new tyres
